Lisa-Monique is a born and raised St. Lucian currently living in Toronto, Canada and working in a cancer research lab. Though she is a scientist by training and profession, Lisa-Monique is also a creative by nature and has always turned to the arts to outwardly express her internal emotions.
As a visual artist, she produces highly detailed, realistic paintings and drawings using acrylic paint, coloured pencils, graphite and charcoal with a general focus on still-life imagery and, infrequently, portraits and landscapes. The pieces she produces embody the multi-faceted nature of her identity:
• Her vivid depictions of simple objects showcase the beauty, joy and vitality she strives to find in even the most mundane aspects of everyday life;
• Her use of striking, minimalistic subjects depicts her often isolated experience while also captivating the attention of viewers and allowing her to directly convey her emotions to them;
• Her contrasting use of strong line-work and extensive, soft blending portrays the simultaneous strength and delicacy of her femininity; and
• Her rich use of colour conveys the vibrancy of Caribbean culture and the lifestyle of her childhood which she deeply misses now being away from her home.
